Convivium Osteria

68 5th Ave Brooklyn, NY 11217
Park Slope, at Saint Marks Place

The Osteria, particularly its seafood tapas, came very highly recommended, so we were surprised to enter the restaurant at 6:30pm and find it completely empty. Even so, it took us quite a long time for the sole waitress to come by with a pitcher of water and take our order.

The seafood tapas platter, when it arrived, contained several items not available directly from the menu, and those were generally the best. I think they rotate seasonally so I won't wax too lyrical about the incredible sauteed red bell peppers or addictive nameless white fish with potato. The nibble I had of octopus was incredible. We are definitely coming back for that.

On the other hand, the fried whole fish entree we ordered (a rainbow trout, I think) was dry and bland, and jacked up our total bill to a rather high total.
